About Touch ’n Go
Touch ’n Go is the cornerstone of the digital transformation within Malaysia’s mobility ecosystem, pioneering seamless consumer experiences for millions across the nation.
Why use Touch ’n Go e-wallet?
Now that the border controls due to COVID-19 have been relaxed, this e-wallet (Licensed by Bank Negara) is useful when Singaporeans travel to Malaysia:
- Breeze past tolls and parking gantries with PayDirect
- Track your expenses. Keep an eye on your expenses with a record of every transaction.
- Enjoy special bonuses and rewards
What is PayDirect?
PayDirect is a feature that allows users to link their physical Touch ’n Go card to their Touch ‘n Go e-wallet account.
If you tap your card at a PayDirect-supported terminal, the charges will be deducted from your e-wallet instead of your physical card. If the e-wallet does not have sufficient funds, fares will be deducted from the Touch ‘n Go card.
PayDirect enables users to add up to FIVE (5) physical Touch ‘n Go cards into the eWallet for toll usage.
The physical Touch ‘n Go card that has been added into the eWallet will be used as a medium to pass through “Touch ‘n Go” and “SmartTAG” lanes at participating highways.
For example, when users pass through the toll booths, the toll fares will be deducted from the eWallet. If the eWallet does not have sufficient funds, fares will be deducted from the Touch ‘n Go card.
Personal Experience
I had to take a photo of my Singapore passport and selfie via the TNG app for the account to be verified to add a TNG card to the e-wallet. Not everyone will be comfortable doing that so do take this into consideration before signing up.
I was rather impressed by the TNG app because it could perform optical character recognition (OCR) on my passport photo to retrieve my personal particulars; as well as use face detection for the selfie.
