What Is BigPay? (Singapore Overview)

BigPay is a digital wallet with a prepaid Visa card managed through a mobile app. It allows users to spend, transfer, and manage money in one platform, operating under licensed payment services in Singapore.

BigPay’s MAS Licensing in Singapore

BigPay Singapore Pte Ltd is licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) as a Major Payment Institution under the Payment Services Act 2019. It is authorised to provide:

  • Account Issuance Service
  • Domestic Money Transfer Service
  • Cross-border Money Transfer Service
  • E-money Issuance Service

BigPay Account Setup & Features

A BigPay account functions as a digital wallet within the BigPay app, giving you access to payments, transfers, and card features.

Activation & Initial Top-Up Requirement

To activate your BigPay account, you must top up at least S$20. This is not a fee — the amount remains in your wallet and can be used for spending.

Top-Up Methods (Singapore Users)

Singapore users can top up via:

  • PayNow QR
  • Credit card (fees may apply)
  • ATM/Debit card

Any applicable charges are displayed in-app before confirmation.

Spending & ATM Withdrawals

  • Use your BigPay Visa card for online and in-store payments worldwide wherever Visa is accepted.
  • Overseas ATM withdrawals are supported at Visa-enabled ATMs.
  • Fees and limits may apply depending on the country and transaction type.

International Money Transfers

Cross-Border Remittance Services

BigPay supports digital international money transfers, with fees and exchange rates shown upfront before confirmation.

Supported destinations include:

China, Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, India, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Transfers are processed digitally to supported banks or payment partners.

BigPay Card Options

Virtual & Physical Cards Explained

After activation, a virtual BigPay card is issued automatically for immediate online use.

If you prefer a physical card:

  • Request the physical blue BigPay card within the app.
  • A S$10 issuance fee will be deducted from your wallet when you order it.

QR Payment Features

Alipay+ QR Payments

BigPay supports Alipay+ QR payments directly within the app.

You can:

  • Scan participating Alipay+ QR codes at merchants.
  • Generate your own QR code for merchants to scan.
  • View exchange rate information before confirming payment.

This extends BigPay beyond Visa card payments and can be useful in destinations where QR payments are widely accepted.

DuitNow QR Payments

BigPay also supports DuitNow QR, enabling QR-based payments through participating merchants.

With DuitNow QR:

  • Scan supported DuitNow QR codes to pay from your BigPay wallet.
  • Generate a QR code within the app to receive payments.
  • In supported cases, cross-border QR functionality may apply when travelling to Malaysia.

This provides added flexibility for Singapore users, particularly when spending in Malaysia where QR payments are common.

Merchant participation and cross-border support may vary by location.

Experience Sharing

Unable to Log In to the BigPay App

In April 2024, I experienced difficulty logging into the BigPay app — an “unknown error” appeared during login. Clearing app data did not resolve the issue. The problem was fixed after uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

  • Avoid offers to purchase or rent your account.
