Does the person signing up receive any points?

Possibly, but do not treat it as a guaranteed instant sign-up bonus.

The current invitation message says that friends can sign up and start spending and earning rewards together, but it does not state a specific reward for the new member.

However, AirAsia’s official Refer a Friend terms and conditions, last updated on 1 August 2023, state that a qualifying new member (the referee) receives 625 AirAsia points after completing all of these steps:

  1. Register as a new AirAsia member using the referrer’s unique invitation link.
  2. Download and log in to the AirAsia MOVE app for the first time within 30 days of registering.
  3. Complete an eligible points-earning transaction within the same 30-day period.

Gift-card purchases, points transfers, points top-ups and marketing-related bonus points do not count as eligible earn transactions under those published terms.

The terms say that the 625 points should be credited within 30 working days after all requirements are met. They also state that these referral points expire 30 days after they are credited.

The public terms were last updated in August 2023, while the wording and navigation in the current app have changed. Check the latest offer and terms shown inside the AirAsia MOVE app before relying on the 625-point reward. If the app does not show a reward for the new member, assume that no bonus is guaranteed.

How to refer a friend in the AirAsia MOVE app

Once you have an AirAsia member account, follow these steps to find your own referral link and code:

  1. Open the AirAsia MOVE app.
  2. Tap your AirAsia points balance.
  3. Tap Me.
  4. Scroll down and select Refer a Friend.
  5. Copy your personal referral code or tap the share option to send your invitation link to a friend.

Ask your friend to register through your unique link and confirm that the referral code is attached to the new account. Referral attribution may not be available after registration is complete.
